Local Pride *rollseyes*
February 10, 2009
A young man came to our house the other day trying to sell us a subscription to the Post Falls Press. He gave us a free sample issue with a couple sections. The front page of the paper, dating Monday, February 9, 2009, was an article called “Guiding Light.” It was written by AP writer Hillel Italie on the Lincoln Bicentennial. Here is the first paragraph excerpted from The Daily Journal:
Two hundred years after the birth of Abraham Lincoln, we still seek him in words and in action, in lessons from his life, in reminders of his legend - and in pilgrimages to the temple built in his honor.
Funny thing though, our hometown paper seemed to have edited the article a bit. That is, I assume it was edited locally because I can’t find this version anywhere online. From the Post Falls Press:
Two score after the birth of Abraham Lincoln, we still seek him in words and in action, in lessons from his life, in reminders of his legend - and in pilgrimages to the temple built in his honor.
Now, as witty as “Two score” sounds, doesn’t whoever wrote that know that a “score” is only 20 years? So unless Honest Abe was born in 1969, someone’s math is off.
I won’t be buying a subscription.
Haha wow that made me laugh
